Sally Abbott completed a program in radiologic technology, earning an Associate in Applied Science degree and passing the national board exam. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Ferrum College and a Master of Science degree in education from Virginia Tech. She worked in the medical field for 10 years, including several years at Virginia Beach General Hospital and Chesapeake General Hospital. Sally has also taught in several public schools around the state and has been an instructor at ANU for over 10 years, in both the general education and health science departments.

William Alberts - Department Chair - Business Management

William Alberts received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina and was admitted to the South Carolina and Virginia State Bar Associations. His legal experience spans over 20 years and includes positions such as legal researcher, law book editor, and private practice as a sole practitioner. As an infantry First Lieutenant in the VA Army NG, he served as a platoon leader and Company Executive Officer/Detachment Commander. For most of his life, William participated in and now is the sole operator of the family farming operations. For 5 years he was the contracts administrator and editor of NavComTelCom's VHF and SHF Antenna Maintenance Manuals. William was the author of the 17th, 18th and 19th editions of the Instructor's Resource Manual to accompany Heintz-Perry's College Accounting. He instructs Law, accounting, management and other business and general education courses at the Charlottesville Campus and currently serves as Department Chair for the Business Management program.

Luis Alicea-Batlle - Instructor

Luis Alicea-Batlle has been an instructor in the Business Department at the National College Louisville Campus for the past four years. He also serves as an instructor through classroom-conferencing for the Harrisonburg Campus. Luis holds a Master of Science degree in Management from Oakland City University, Oakland City, IN; a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration/Organization from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI; and an Associate degree in General Education from Troy State University, Troy, AL. Luis is a U.S. Army veteran, having served 21 years of active duty and 9 years of reserve time. While in the Army, he held positions as Drill Sergeant, Drill Sergeant Academy Instructor, and Leadership Academy Instructor. Luis has had civilian work experience in resource management, advertisement sales, car sales, and human resource management/coordinating. He has been instructing college-level courses since 2007.

Angela Andrepont has over twenty years of professional experience in business and education, in areas including teaching, mentoring, grant writing, information technology, staff development, office management, bookkeeping, and accounting. She received her Master of Science degree in Education Leadership from Radford University, her Master of Business Administration degree from Averett University, her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Averett University, and her Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management from Danville Community College. Angela is an instructor of information technology and general education courses at the Danville, VA Campus.

Rossana Aragon has worked extensively in the ESL field both as an instructor and as a teacher trainer in Cusco-Peru. As an academic coordinator, Rossana has developed teaching training programs and class materials for ICPNA Cusco-Peru. She holds a Bachelors in Arts degree in Education with major in English from Federico Villareal University in Lima-Peru. She has also completed coursework towards an MA in TESOL instruction at Piura University in Peru. Rossana has been a keynote speaker in various ESL workshops throughout Peru. She has been a proctor for Michigan international examinations as well.

She teaches in the pharmacy technician program at ANU's Lynchburg Campus.

Felix Baez worked as a Senior Data Analyst for a Telecommunications Auditing company before coming to National College. He is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and has obtained his CompTIA Network+ certification. Felix is an instructor of Information Systems Engineering courses and the Bachelor of Information Technology courses, and he currently serves as Director of IT programs at the Harrisonburg Campus.

Elizabeth Gayle Barker has served in a variety of teaching positions within the educational field. She received her bachelor's degree and Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate from Radford College (now University) and her master's degree from the University of Virginia. She is Microsoft Office Specialist certified, an RMA proctor, campus administrator, and an assistant librarian. Elizabeth is an instructor of keyboarding, Microsoft Office, general education, and medical office courses at the Martinsville Campus, where she currently serves as Department Chair of the Administrative Office Professional program.

Judith Bateman holds a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology and a master's degree in Industrial Management. She has worked in various hospitals throughout her career, culminating with a position she held for seven years in the UVA Medical Center Virology/Microbiology Department. She previously served as a Research and Development Microbiologist/QA Microbiologist for 20 years. Judith has been an instructor at the Lynchburg Campus since 2009.

Dr. Stephen Bazo has been teaching at ANU since July 2014. Dr. Bazo started teaching TOEFL prep classes, ESL classes, and English grammar and composition classes before moving to the business department, where he teaches Introduction to Business. Dr. Bazo has taught Chinese language and literature, second language acquisition theory, and foreign language pedagogy for the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Navy. His professional degrees include a doctorate in education leadership, master's degrees in teaching foreign languages and business administration, and a B.A. and U.S. Government diploma in French and Chinese-Mandarin.

Dr. Carl Beekman holds a Ph.D. in Multicultural Education/Creative Writing from The Union Institute, Cincinnati, OH. His academic background includes administrative experience as an Assistant Superintendent for Academics on the Navajo Reservation, Assistant Principal for a Native American high school in South Dakota, and Principal for an elementary/junior high school in Indiana. He has taught students from more than 40 tribes in grades K-12 and has developed and taught undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate courses. Carl is currently an instructor for the American National University online program.

Dorothy Blackwell has worked in the medical field for over 10 years, most recently at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Dorothy received her associate's degree in medical assisting from ANU and is certified through the (AAMA) American Association for Medical Assistants. Dorothy also received an associate's degree in business administration from Piedmont Community College. She is a health care instructor at ANU's Danville, VA Campus.

Joan Blankenship has worked in both the medical field and the business field for more than 40 years and presently serves as a consultant to a national environmental conservation organization. Joan is a Registered Nurse with a Master of Science in Education degree. She teaches both medical and business courses for the Martinsville Campus.

Dr. Debbie Brassell received her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and has been providing speech-language services in different educational, hospital, and clinical settings for 35 years. She also holds a PhD in Healthcare Administration and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, as well as an Executive JD Degree specializing in health care law. Debbie has led a research project in Dublin, Ireland, working with children with Autism and Down Syndrome; obtained a Graduate Certificate in Hippotherapy and developed a Hippotherapy Program in Bedford, Virginia, using horses to achieve rehabilitation goals with children and adults; and authored a book: Alzheimer's Disease: Survivor or Victim? Know the Facts, dedicated to her grandmother.

Michal Bucklew has been working in the field of medical billing and coding for over 20 years. She has worked for Medicare as a claims processor and has worked in billing and coding for a regional hospital. Michal is currently working in a large medical office as a medical coder and biller. She holds certifications in Medical Coding Career Studies and Medical Assisting. Michal is an instructor of Medical Billing and Coding Procedures and Guidelines courses at the Lynchburg Campus.

Stacy Burkett has worked in the IT field for over 5 years and has served in a variety of positions within the IT field, including Tech Support Representative, Federal IT Work Study, and Adjunct Faculty Instructor. She is an instructor of Server 2008, Windows 7, and other IT courses for the Charlottesville Campus and currently serves as Director of the Information Systems Engineering program.

Sheilla Coplin has worked in the medical field for over 25 years. She completed her nursing degree from Patrick Henry Community College and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Averett University, a bachelor's degree in nursing from Old Dominion University, and a Master of Arts degree in Education from George Mason University. Her clinical experience includes intensive care and obstetrics. Sheilla teaches all clinical courses, as well as medical courses, in addition to environmental science, biology, preparatory English, and math at the Martinsville Campus.

George has served in a variety of management and accounting positions in the business and not-for-profit sectors, has owned a travel agency and a real estate business, and was a realtor licensed in the state of Virginia. Mathew received his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Brigham Young University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Virginia Tech. He teaches business, marketing, and management courses and is chair of the business management programs for the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and the Online program. Mathew is also an ACICS evaluator and performs accreditation visits at other colleges across the country.

William Griffin has been an instructor with National College since 2001, where he has taught courses in English, business, philosophy, logic, critical thinking, government, history, political science, economics, parliamentary procedure, and human resources. He has experience as a consultant and partner in two corporations; has previously taught at St. Joseph's University, Ursinus College MBA program, and was a guest lecturer at Cornell University School of Labor Studies; was Director of Planning and Development for the Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project; served as President of the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers and Vice President of the Philadelphia AFL-CIO; was Director of the Department of Labor's Green Thumb and Appalachian Council Job Corps programs; and served as President of Honeywell Corporation Union. William served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.

Mike Henry is an experienced educator with engagements at American National University, George Mason University, Strayer University, and The IBM AK Watson International Education Center La Hulpe. Mike attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and his Master of Business Administration. His career achievements include developing and delivering curricula and presentations on a wide range of topics, including; computer science, business (graduate level), financial institution data models (professional level), and Microsoft Office. His enthusiasm for teaching is primarily driven by his interest in guiding students to achieve their educational goals.

He has owned and operated various businesses during his career and is a member of his state (KSCPA) and national (AICPA) accounting organizations. David teaches primarily accounting and business courses at the National College Lexington Campus. He also serves as an instructor through classroom-conferencing for the Harrisonburg Campus.

Clay is an experienced manager in quality, manufacturing, and ISO 9001 Management Systems for multiple manufacturing centers. He is accomplished in working with regulatory agencies. His specialties include Production Operations, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, Regulatory Affairs, Safety, Operational Effectiveness, Business Metrics, Project Management, Supply Chain Monitoring, Purchasing, Analysis and Problem Solving, Communication, and Computer and Software Proficiency.

Gregory Jessup has been teaching various levels of English, from high school to GED and college courses, since 1998, and more than 15 of those years have been with ANU. He is an English instructor at the Martinsville Campus and previously served as General Education department chair. He was the recipient of the Virginia Career College Association's "Teacher of the Year Award" in 2014.

Larry Liggan tenured 18 years of direct patient care experience while serving in the US Army. He has been a part of distinguished duty assignments with the US Army Burn Center at Fort Sam Houston and BN Aid Station PA at Fort Hood. Larry received his Bachelor of Science degree as Physician Associate from University of Oklahoma and a Master of Education degree from American InterContinental University. He currently serves as the Director of Health Care Education & Department Chair for the Charlottesville Campus, as well as an instructor of all medical core courses.

Sarah Rakes is currently a biology instructor specializing in human biology and zoology. Sarah previously worked as a veterinary technician for six years. While attending Christopher Newport University, she worked as a biology research technician for three years. She also interned at the Virginia Museum of Natural History as a biology research assistant. Sarah teaches human anatomy and physiology as well as medical terminology.

Byron's professional career includes over 15 years of managerial experience in operations and marketing research in the manufacturing, transportation, and financial industries. For the past 10 years, he has owned and operated a small business that provides health and personal care services for the geriatric population. Linda D. Slough is currently a Deputy Commissioner with the Virginia Worker's Compensation Commission. Prior to that position, she practiced law for nineteen years as a partner in a multi-office firm and, for the last seven years, as a sole practitioner. She graduated from James Madison University and the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and was admitted to practice in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Linda serves as department chair of the paralegal program at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and has been a speaker at continuing legal education seminars. In addition, she is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been included in the Best Lawyers in America since 2009. Her office was also listed by US News and World Report as a Best Law Firm for 2010 and 2011. Linda was listed in The Roanoker magazine as a top attorney in Roanoke in 2009 and 2011. In 2012, she was listed in Virginia Living magazine as a Legal Eagle in workers' compensation law in Southwest Virginia.

Philip previously served as a history instructor at New River Community College in Dublin, VA and is now an instructor of humanities courses for the American National University online program.
