Dan Bailey has experience as an Information Technology Manager and is currently an instructor in the areas of Management, Information Technology, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, and Business Law for the American National University online program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Bluefield College, Bluefield, VA and a Master of Business Administration degree from Averett University in Danville, VA.
Dr. Carl Beekman holds a Ph.D. in Multicultural Education/Creative Writing from The Union Institute, Cincinnati, OH. His academic background includes administrative experience as an Assistant Superintendent for Academics on the Navajo Reservation, Assistant Principal for a Native American high school in South Dakota, and Principal for an elementary/junior high school in Indiana. He has taught students from more than 40 tribes in grades K-12 and has developed and taught undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate courses. Carl is currently an instructor for the American National University online program.

Stacey Bottone earned her MBA from Salve Regina University, her Master in Health Information Management from Kaplan University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Charter Oak State College. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator, Certified Medical Coder, Certified Medical Biller, and Medical Assistant. She has worked in health care for over 20 years with 8 years being in practice management. She has worked on numerous electronic health record conversion and implementation processes. She is involved in curriculum design and development and has worked on a number of course projects in on-ground, online and hybrid formats.

Dr. Debbie Brassell received her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and has been providing speech-language services in different educational, hospital, and clinical settings for 35 years. She also holds a PhD in Healthcare Administration and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, as well as an Executive JD Degree specializing in health care law. Debbie has led a research project in Dublin, Ireland, working with children with Autism and Down Syndrome; obtained a Graduate Certificate in Hippotherapy and developed a Hippotherapy Program in Bedford, Virginia, using horses to achieve rehabilitation goals with children and adults; and authored a book: Alzheimer's Disease: Survivor or Victim? Know the Facts, dedicated to her grandmother.

Patricia G. Foley has worked within the Computer and IT industry for more than 25 years. She has held a variety of positions, including manager of an Internet company, Senior Analyst and Team Leader at COMPAQ Computer division of TAG, and as a Field Service Engineer at Siemens. Patricia has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, a Master's degree from New York Institute of Technology, and is a PhD candidate at The University of Fairfax. She is currently the Director of IT Programs and Academic Department Chair of Information Technology and Information Systems Engineering at American National University. Patricia teaches Networking, Windows Server Administration, Network Security, Cloud Computing, Linux and other Network Administration courses.

Nikki Follis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems from Saint Leo University, a Master of Business Administration degree in e-commerce from Baker College, and a Doctor of Business Administration degree in organizational leadership. She is an instructor of business and accounting courses for the American National University Online program.
Julie Franklin has been an educator for 23 years and has been a licensed realtor for 17 years. She obtained her Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from Averett University, Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Tech, library science endorsement from Idaho University, and her real estate license from the Moseley-Flint School of Real Estate. She has extensive experience in adult education and presently serves as an instructional technology staff development instructor for the Department of Organizational Development, Quality and Innovation for a large public school system. She is an instructor for the online program at American National University.
Department Chair - Business Management
Mathew S. George has served in a variety of management and accounting positions in the business and not-for-profit sectors, has owned a travel agency and a real estate business, and was a realtor licensed in the state of Virginia. Mathew received his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Brigham Young University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Virginia Tech. He teaches business, marketing, and management courses and is chair of the business management programs for the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and the Online program. Mathew is also an ACICS evaluator and performs accreditation visits at other colleges across the country.
Gina Kurtz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration degree specializing in leadership. She has previously been a classroom instructor at the Lynchburg Campus, but now teaches courses for the American National University online program.
Academic Department Chair Health Information Management
MS IHCM, B.S HIM, RHIA, CCS
Beth McLeod's educational background is in Health Information Management, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management in 2010 and more recently a Master of Science in Integrated Healthcare Management in 2017. Beth is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA. With over 10 years of experience in the field of HIM, Beth has held many roles including Director of HIM as well as HIM/Medical Billing and Coding Faculty and more recently, HIM Program Director. Beth is a member of IFHIMA, AHIMA, and the AAPC. Beth is currently the online Academic Department Chair in the HIM program at ANU.
Paula Muir holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration and is a Registered Health Information Technician. She has worked in the traditional Acute Care setting for over 40 years, with 30 of those years having been devoted to Health Information Management (HIM) as the Director and 5 years were as Director of Clinical Support and Physician Services as well as Performance Improvement and Reengineering. She also worked for 6 years as Director of Transcription Services (HIM) for an Outsourcing Company. Paula has served as an instructor at Kent State University and Trumbull County Joint Vocational School, as well as an independent HIM consultant. She currently teaches the Health Information Management core classes at the ANU.
Dean of Business
Dr. Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from Argosy University, a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from South University, and a Doctor of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from Argosy University. Her research was recently published in the International Journal of Business and Public Administration. She is a frequent speaker at the fall academic conference sponsored by the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines. Dr. Scott has worked in higher education since 2007 in many different capacities. She has served as an assistant director of admissions, director of admissions, student success advisor, faculty member, program director, and dean. Her career prior to higher education was primarily in the airline and publishing industries. In the airline industry she started as an agent and worked her way up to executive management. In the publishing industry she started as an advertising executive and worked her way up to publisher.
Beth Stewart holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Indiana University and a Master of Arts degree in sociology from Ball State University. She has been teaching at the college-level since 1993 and online since 2003. She primarily teaches social science courses but also mathematics, computer software, freshmen success classes, and online communications. She lives in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Philip Travis holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and religious studies and a bachelor's degree in history from Radford University, as well as a Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Kentucky. He is currently pursuing a PhD in history from Washington State University, with a focus on U.S. foreign relations and diplomacy during the Cold War and in the present. Philip previously served as a history instructor at New River Community College in Dublin, VA and is now an instructor of humanities courses for the American National University online program.
Academic Department Chair - Accounting
Tim Whited has been a Senior Professor of Accounting at ANU for 17 years. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree with an accounting concentration from Morehead State University and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with majors in Accounting and Management from Old Dominion University. He currently teaches courses in the accounting and business programs, and he is the academic supervisor of the accounting diploma and degree programs. Students have voted him instructor of the year two times, and he has been nominated for the Distinguished Teaching award for the Virginia/West Virginia division three times. Tim has a small business in which he professionally completes individual tax returns each spring.
