Where Are You Located?

Our campuses are easy to get to, offer ample parking, and with our eLearning options you may even be able to take classes from home.

Directions to the Roanoke Valley VA location:

From Exit 141 of Interstate 81, exit south on Route 419 (Electric Road) and turn left at the second traffic light, which is East Main Street (Route 460).

From Salem, come east on Main Street just two blocks past the Electric Road intersection, and from Roanoke, come west on Melrose Avenue, just into the city of Salem.

From the south, take Route 419 north, right on Route 460 two blocks and turn left on Hillmont Drive to the visitor parking lots.

The key to our success is a faculty of Professional Instructors with Industry Experience.  Drawing on personal insights, our instructors provide students with a real-world perspective to prepare them for success in well-defined fields of employment.

Rossana Aragon - Instructor

Rossana Aragon


B.A., M.Ed. TESOL Candidate

Rossana Aragon has worked extensively in the ESL field both as an instructor and as a teacher trainer in Cusco-Peru. As an academic coordinator, Rossana has developed teaching training programs and class materials for ICPNA Cusco-Peru. She holds a Bachelors in Arts degree in Education with major in English from Federico Villareal University in Lima-Peru. She has also completed coursework towards an MA in TESOL instruction at Piura University in Peru. Rossana has been a keynote speaker in various ESL workshops throughout Peru. She has been a proctor for Michigan international examinations as well.

Stacey Bottone - Instructor

Stacey Bottone



Stacey Bottone earned her MBA from Salve Regina University, her Master in Health Information Management from Kaplan University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Charter Oak State College. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator, Certified Medical Coder, Certified Medical Biller, and Medical Assistant. She has worked in health care for over 20 years with 8 years being in practice management. She has worked on numerous electronic health record conversion and implementation processes. She is involved in curriculum design and development and has worked on a number of course projects in on-ground, online and hybrid formats.

Teresa Duschean - Instructor

Teresa Duschean



Teresa Duschean graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Her work experience includes a government contracting firm in Washington, D.C. and the computer hardware/software field in California, including time at Microsoft. She is an instructor of math, computer, and keyboarding courses at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Christopher Fielder has been in the IT field for over 10 years, starting in the US Air Force, then as a civilian contractor for the Government, and now as a World Wide Server Administrator. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, as well as numerous industry certifications, including Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Microsoft Certified Professional, CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+. Christopher is an instructor at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Patricia G. Foley has worked within the Computer and IT industry for more than 25 years. She has held a variety of positions, including manager of an Internet company, Senior Analyst and Team Leader at COMPAQ Computer division of TAG, and as a Field Service Engineer at Siemens. Patricia has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, a Master's degree from New York Institute of Technology, and is a PhD candidate at The University of Fairfax. She is currently the Director of IT Programs and Academic Department Chair of Information Technology and Information Systems Engineering at American National University. Patricia teaches Networking, Windows Server Administration, Network Security, Cloud Computing, Linux and other Network Administration courses.

Mathew S. George has served in a variety of management and accounting positions in the business and not-for-profit sectors, has owned a travel agency and a real estate business, and was a realtor licensed in the state of Virginia. Mathew received his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Brigham Young University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Virginia Tech. He teaches business, marketing, and management courses and is chair of the business management programs for the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and the Online program. Mathew is also an ACICS evaluator and performs accreditation visits at other colleges across the country.

Clay Hodges - Instructor

Clay Hodges came to the Roanoke Valley Campus as an instructor in the Master of Business Administration program after completing his own MBA with ANU. Clay is an experienced manager in quality, manufacturing, and ISO 9001 Management Systems for multiple manufacturing centers. He is accomplished in working with regulatory agencies. His specialties include Production Operations, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, Regulatory Affairs, Safety, Operational Effectiveness, Business Metrics, Project Management, Supply Chain Monitoring, Purchasing, Analysis and Problem Solving, Communication, and Computer and Software Proficiency.

Bejai Powell graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Networking and Computing and a minor in Computer Science. He has over 13 years of quality information technology work experience and has worked for companies such as Johnson & Johnson and Roanoke County Public Schools. Bejai is an instructor at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Don Richardson - Instructor

Don Richardson



Don Richardson has served in a variety of positions within the financial services industry, including staff auditor, audit manager, assistance vice president of auditing, controller, and he is currently the staff accountant for a local utility company. Don received his bachelor's degree in marketing from Virginia Tech and his Master of Business Administration degree from National College. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Bank Auditor (CBA). He teaches accounting courses in the master's and undergraduate programs at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Department Chair - Paralegal Studies


Linda D. Slough is currently a Deputy Commissioner with the Virginia Worker's Compensation Commission. Prior to that position, she practiced law for nineteen years as a partner in a multi-office firm and, for the last seven years, as a sole practitioner. She graduated from James Madison University and the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and was admitted to practice in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Linda serves as department chair of the paralegal program at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and has been a speaker at continuing legal education seminars. In addition, she is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been included in the Best Lawyers in America since 2009. Her office was also listed by US News and World Report as a Best Law Firm for 2010 and 2011. Linda was listed in The Roanoker magazine as a top attorney in Roanoke in 2009 and 2011. In 2012, she was listed in Virginia Living magazine as a Legal Eagle in workers' compensation law in Southwest Virginia.

Dr. John Muoi Van Nguyen, Director of American National University's English Language Institute, is internationally known for his expertise in language education. He has designed and taught many post-graduate courses in ESL, TOEFL, IELTS, Critical Thinking, Culture, MATESOL, and MBA at Danang University-VN, University of Social Sciences & Humanities-VN, International University-VN, Columbia Southern University-VN, Pittsburgh University-Semester at Sea, American University-DC, California State University-LA, Washington State University-Pullman, University of Texas-Austin. Dr. Nguyen has supervised 25 MA theses and one Ph.D. dissertation. He is the author of several English books for post-graduate courses, including Writing Skills, Research Paper Writing, Cross-Cultural Communication, EAP English Curriculum for the VNU-IU, MA.TESOL Curriculum for ANU-ELI, A Comprehensive ESL Reading Textbook (Series Consultant), and countless articles.
