Where Are You Located?

Our campuses are easy to get to, offer ample parking, and with our eLearning options you may even be able to take classes from home.

Directions to the Roanoke Valley VA location:

From Exit 141 of Interstate 81, exit south on Route 419 (Electric Road) and turn left at the second traffic light, which is East Main Street (Route 460).

From Salem, come east on Main Street just two blocks past the Electric Road intersection, and from Roanoke, come west on Melrose Avenue, just into the city of Salem.

From the south, take Route 419 north, right on Route 460 two blocks and turn left on Hillmont Drive to the visitor parking lots.

Rossana Aragon


B.A., M.Ed. TESOL Candidate

Rossana Aragon has worked extensively in the ESL field both as an instructor and as a teacher trainer in Cusco-Peru. As an academic coordinator, Rossana has developed teaching training programs and class materials for ICPNA Cusco-Peru. She holds a Bachelors in Arts degree in Education with major in English from Federico Villareal University in Lima-Peru. She has also completed coursework towards an MA in TESOL instruction at Piura University in Peru. Rossana has been a keynote speaker in various ESL workshops throughout Peru. She has been a proctor for Michigan international examinations as well.

Jayne Atkins holds a Master of Science in Education degree in Human Resource Development from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Radford University. She has over 25 years of work experience with a background in various business, legal, medical, insurance, and education environments. Jayne currently serves as the Department Chair of the Computer Applications Technology program at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus. She also serves on the College Academic Committee and the Institutional Academic Committee.

Kimberly Banta - Instructor

Kimberly Banta



Kimberly Banta has more than a decade of experience as an attorney with extensive courtroom litigation experience. She is a former Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and insurance/personal injury defense attorney. Kim has tried numerous jury and bench trials in the Commonwealth of Virginia and also has experience in immigration law. Kim has substantial knowledge in handling mediation/arbitration and settling cases, when appropriate. She has prepared countless pleadings, motions, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents. Kim is an instructor at American National University's Roanoke Valley Campus, where she teaches paralegal law courses, including criminal law, torts, real estate law, and pretrial discovery/trial preparation.

Marie Bishop - Instructor

Marie Bishop


B.A. Political Science and M.Ed. in TESOL and Social Studies

Marie Bishop is a native of Roanoke, Virginia. Marie holds a B.A. in Political Science from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. While attending Hollins she studied abroad for a semester in 2009 and 2011 in London, England. While there she interned in Parliament and with a political action non-profit group. Marie also holds a M.Ed. in TESOL and Social Studies from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. She is currently working on her doctorate in Higher Education. Marie published a self-help book titled Simply Overcoming in 2013. Marie not only is employed by American National University, but also by Virginia Tech's Language and Culture Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia.

William  Divers - Instructor

William Divers

Will Divers achieved his Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology and French at Duke University. He returned to Roanoke for his Master’s in Humanities with a focus on French, Spanish and Classical Greek at Hollins University while teaching French, Spanish, Biology, and Government in Roanoke City Schools. He has taught French, Spanish, Teacher Education, Film Studies, English, English as a Second Language and Psychology at a variety of colleges and universities, including Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, Harcum College, and Burlington County College. Since returning again to Roanoke, he has taught Spanish at Northside High School and Community High School, French at Roanoke College, and English at American National University prior to returning to teach English as a Second Language. x

Teresa Duschean



Teresa Duschean graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Her work experience includes a government contracting firm in Washington, D.C. and the computer hardware/software field in California, including time at Microsoft. She is an instructor of math, computer, and keyboarding courses at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Patricia  Eby - Instructor

Patricia Eby


BSN, MS, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified Disability Management Specialist, Licensed Clinical Nurse Specialist, RN

Patricia Eby holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, a Certified Disability Management Specialist, a Licensed Clinical Nurse Specialist, and a Registered Nurse. She has 7 years of experience in trauma nursing, outpatient clinical experience in cardiology and orthopedics, and over 20 years of medical and vocational case management. Patricia is coordinator of an area-wide rehabilitation networking breakfast; past president of both the Virginia Association of Rehab Nurses and the Virginia Association of Rehabilitation professionals; on the steering committee for the Roanoke Area Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities; and has served on boards for the Council of Community Services. She is a healthcare instructor for the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Christopher Fielder - Instructor

Christopher Fielder has been in the IT field for over 10 years, starting in the US Air Force, then as a civilian contractor for the Government, and now as a World Wide Server Administrator. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, as well as numerous industry certifications, including Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Microsoft Certified Professional, CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+. Christopher is an instructor at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Department Chair - Business Management


Mathew S. George has served in a variety of management and accounting positions in the business and not-for-profit sectors, has owned a travel agency and a real estate business, and was a realtor licensed in the state of Virginia. Mathew received his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Brigham Young University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Virginia Tech. He teaches business, marketing, and management courses and is chair of the business management programs for the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and the Online program. Mathew is also an ACICS evaluator and performs accreditation visits at other colleges across the country.

Clay Hodges came to the Roanoke Valley Campus as an instructor in the Master of Business Administration program after completing his own MBA with ANU. Clay is an experienced manager in quality, manufacturing, and ISO 9001 Management Systems for multiple manufacturing centers. He is accomplished in working with regulatory agencies. His specialties include Production Operations, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, Regulatory Affairs, Safety, Operational Effectiveness, Business Metrics, Project Management, Supply Chain Monitoring, Purchasing, Analysis and Problem Solving, Communication, and Computer and Software Proficiency.

Rosy Makoui has been teaching computer courses for over 20 years in the Roanoke area and is currently an instructor at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus. Carolyn F. Paige received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Bluefield College and obtained certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Professional Coder, Hospital-Based (CPC-H) through the American Academy of Professional Coders. She is an employee at a local hospital and a health care instructor at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus, teaching CPT Coding and Medical Office Administrative procedures.

Bejai Powell graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Networking and Computing and a minor in Computer Science. He has over 13 years of quality information technology work experience and has worked for companies such as Johnson & Johnson and Roanoke County Public Schools. Jaime Rebkovich



Jaime L. Rebkovich is an attorney in Blacksburg, Virginia. Her practice focuses on family law and estate planning. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing management from Virginia Tech and a Juris Doctor degree from The Penn State Dickinson School of Law. Jaime has been an instructor at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus since 2007. Her courses include Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Legal Research and Writing Part 1 and Part 2, Administrative Law, Wills Trusts and Estate Planning, and Family Law.

Don Richardson has served in a variety of positions within the financial services industry, including staff auditor, audit manager, assistance vice president of auditing, controller, and he is currently the staff accountant for a local utility company. Don received his bachelor's degree in marketing from Virginia Tech and his Master of Business Administration degree from National College. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Bank Auditor (CBA). He teaches accounting courses in the master's and undergraduate programs at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus.

Jo Schultz



Jo Schultz has been in the health care field for more than 25 years working in several departments, including Clinical Effectiveness and the clinical laboratories before coming to Infection Control. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Roanoke College and her Medical Technologist (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification from the University Of Virginia. Most recently she completed a Patient Safety Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University. After working in several inpatient areas, Jo is currently working with ambulatory clinics. She is a health science instructor at American National University's Roanoke Valley Campus.

Linda D. Slough is currently a Deputy Commissioner with the Virginia Worker's Compensation Commission. Prior to that position, she practiced law for nineteen years as a partner in a multi-office firm and, for the last seven years, as a sole practitioner. She graduated from James Madison University and the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and was admitted to practice in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Linda serves as department chair of the paralegal program at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus and has been a speaker at continuing legal education seminars. In addition, she is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been included in the Best Lawyers in America since 2009. Her office was also listed by US News and World Report as a Best Law Firm for 2010 and 2011. Linda was listed in The Roanoker magazine as a top attorney in Roanoke in 2009 and 2011. In 2012, she was listed in Virginia Living magazine as a Legal Eagle in workers' compensation law in Southwest Virginia.

Dr. John Muoi Van Nguyen, Director of American National University's English Language Institute, is internationally known for his expertise in language education. He has designed and taught many post-graduate courses in ESL, TOEFL, IELTS, Critical Thinking, Culture, MATESOL, and MBA at Danang University-VN, University of Social Sciences & Humanities-VN, International University-VN, Columbia Southern University-VN, Pittsburgh University-Semester at Sea, American University-DC, California State University-LA, Washington State University-Pullman, University of Texas-Austin. Dr. Nguyen has supervised 25 MA theses and one Ph.D. dissertation. He is the author of several English books for post-graduate courses, including Writing Skills, Research Paper Writing, Cross-Cultural Communication, EAP English Curriculum for the VNU-IU, MA.TESOL Curriculum for ANU-ELI, A Comprehensive ESL Reading Textbook (Series Consultant), and countless articles.

Department Chair - Health Care Education


MJ Williams has worked in the healthcare field for over 35 years and is presently the Director of Healthcare Education at the American National University Roanoke Valley Campus. She oversees all extern placements and assists students in preparing for certification. She manages a stable faculty of 12 and teaches a variety of healthcare courses. MJ is a Registered Nurse and a Registered Medical Assistant and has an Associate of Applied Science degree from Wytheville Community College. She is an active member of AMAA and AMT.
