ANU Launches Master of Science in Cybersecurity Program

Aug 03, 2016

American National University recently launched a Master of Science in Cybersecurity (MSC) program designed to give students the practical skills they need to design and implement cyber security solutions to prevent and detect cyberattacks.

Cybersecurity professionals are in demand as businesses and organizations seek to protect their computer networks and secure their clients’ personal data. In the program, which is available through ANU Online, students will focus on best practices in information security, including advanced prevention, detection, countermeasures, and recovery.  They’ll also develop a project plan for a security assessment utilizing the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

“The MSC program allows students that are looking for an edge in their current IT employment the ability to apply this program to their field concentration.”

Core classes include Information Security Systems and Organizational Awareness, Intrusion Detection Attack and Countermeasures, and Information Security Project Management. The program also prepares students to sit for a number of certification exams, including: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certified Ethical Hacker/Licensed Penetration Tester (CEH/LPT), and Certified Computer Forensics Examiner (CCFE).

“The MSC program allows students that are looking for an edge in their current IT employment the ability to apply this program to their field of concentration,” stated George Hampton, ANU’s senior director of IT programs. “It makes this program appealing to both those looking to get into the cybersecurity field and those that need a boost in their current IT employment.”
