JenCare Neighborhood Medical Centers, a growing regional health care company which specializes in providing one-stop care to geriatric patients, has hired six American National University graduates since opening its first Louisville area location less than a year ago. Ella Battle, a 2012 graduate of the medical assisting program at the Louisville Campus, was one of the first American National University graduates to be hired by JenCare. She has always had a desire to help others, and she particularly enjoys caring for the elderly. “When JenCare told me what they were about, I was absolutely ecstatic,” she recalled.
Margaret Johnson, JenCare’s senior clinical lead for the Kentucky market, was equally as pleased with Ella’s work at the clinic. “I saw her personality and her work ethic and I said, ‘Where did you go to college?’ It snowballed from there,” explained Johnson. She soon connected with Louisville Campus career center director Donna Reed-Carson and director of health care education Bonnie Kiefer.
Donna works closely with Ms. Johnson and Skye Verdon, director of staffing and development for JenCare, to provide them with résumés of qualified job candidates for the positions that they need to fill. Ms. Verdon recently traveled from her office in Florida to participate in the campus’s career fair, which provided her an opportunity to meet with many of the upcoming graduates face-to-face.
Because of their outstanding support of American National University graduates and of career college education, Donna and campus director Vincent Tinebra recently presented JenCare Neighborhood Medical Centers with a plaque honoring them as a Distinguished Community Employer.
“National’s been a great asset to us,” said Ms. Johnson. “It’s really been a great school to get bonded with. It’s a small school…so I think students get that one-on-one. When they come in here, I can see that they’ve been trained well. They know what to do.”
Julie Hoffman, manager of one of the three Louisville area JenCare locations, agreed. “They’re very knowledgeable; very eager to learn,” she said of the American National University graduates who work for her. “When they come out [of school], they actually have got the education that they should have. I’ve had employees come from other places before and they don’t seem to have the knowledge or half the experience that [the National graduates] have had.”
Ms. Hoffman said that, as JenCare’s Louisville area locations grow, they will continue to turn to American National University to find the well-trained medical staff they need to keep their clinics running smoothly.
