Tamela Pedroza-Vazquez worked in the logistics industry for 15 years before her employer decided to move its operations out of the country, leaving her and many others without a job. But that hardship began to turn around when Tamela learned she was eligible to receive benefits from the Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) affording her the opportunity to get new skills.
TAA is a federal program that helps laid off workers get new job skills in an effort to reduce the damaging impact of imports. After meeting with her local employment office, Tamela learned about the many career training programs available at National’s Bristol Campus, all of which would be covered by TAA.
“I compared the classes for accounting and business in several colleges, and I liked the classes better [at National],” explained Tamela who graduated from the business administration-management and accounting associate degree programs.
A self-professed lover of numbers and challenges, Tamela is using her new education on the job as an accounting clerk for Crowder RV Center. Her job mostly consists of doing accounts receivables and accounts payables which she believes she was well prepared for through her classes at National. She specifically mentioned how helpful all of her accounting classes were including the distance learning classes she took from her computer at home.
Tamela is hoping to continue her education to earn a bachelor’s degree and has her sights set on National’s eUniversity’s accounting degree program. She has a goal of earning the education and knowledge necessary to pass the Certified Public Accountant exam and she looks forward to a long career in accounting.
