American National University Enhances Phlebotomy Program
ECG is added to the Phlebotomy Curriculum

RICHMOND, KY– American National University’s phlebotomy diploma program has received an enhancement as electrocardiogram (ECG) instruction has been added to the curriculum.

The program will prepare students to sit for the National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) and National ECG Technician (NCET).

The course of study will allow the student to work as a phlebotomist in a hospital, blood bank, or health facility.  The ECG portion will provide the student with the knowledge to assess a patient’s heart rhythm and rate and record the electrocardiogram.  These two tasks are key components of working as a medical support employee at most healthcare facilities.  Courses include Medical Terminology, Basic Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Health Care Law and Ethics. The courses are also transferrable to ANU’s medical assisting associate’s degree and medical health services management bachelor’s degree program as part of the University’s progressive education format.

Students in this 36 quarter hour program gain the knowledge and real-world experience needed to be successful in this career by preparing for these certifications and hands-on experience in labs and externships.

“American National University always has the students in mind when designing or revamping programs of study,” said Dr. Diane Morey, vice president of academic affairs - health science education at ANU.  “This enhanced Phlebotomy and ECG technician program will certainly make graduates be more marketable to health care recruiters.”
